Expanding on last weeks Guardians of the Galaxy Post

Last week I posted a blog discussing some of the key issues of the Guardians of the Galaxy, you can find it here. I talked about the first appearances of Rocket Raccoon, Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy as the team.  If you missed that be sure to go check it out.

I want to expand on that list a little and talk about some other first appearances of the Guardians, including Drax, Gamora, Star Lord, and Ronan.

Drax
The first appearance of Drax is actually better known for being the first appearance of Thanos. It takes place in Iron Man 55. This has become a pretty expensive book with Thanos’ involvement in the cinematic universe. For NM graded copies sellers are asking $3,000+. Now is probably not the best time to buy this book but it is a great time to sell. If you are really hoping to get this issue I would wait and see if the market gets a little less crazy. The copies listed on ebay aren’t getting bids because sellers have the prices set so high right now.

Gamora
The daughter of Thanos first appeared in Strange Tales 180. While not as pricey as Iron Man 55, Strange Tales 180 is still not cheap. For a nice copy expect to spend a minimum of $70. I saw a graded 9.6 just sold for $345. Pretty good for a book that originally sold for a quarter!

Star Lord
Like Rocket Raccoon Star Lord first appeared in Marvel Preview, his debut came in issue #4.  This is considered a magazine appearance but it is the expensive one. His first “comic” appearance came in Marvel Spotlight v2 #6. A 9.6 Marvel Spotlight sold for $250 while a 9.0 + Marvel Preview is $1000 plus.  You can cop an ungraded copy of Marvel Spotlight 6 for under $20 though, that seems like a good buy to me.

Ronan
Though Ronan made his film debut in Guardians of the Galaxy he is better known as a Fantastic Four villain. His first appearance came in Fantastic Four 65.  This book is actually a lot cheaper than I would have guessed. Unfortunately it looks like Ronan is done in the films so the peak time to sell this issue may have passed. If you are looking to own it, you won’t necessarily have to break the bank. Depending on how picky you are, you can get a decent copy for $30 - $60.
